The 31-year-old striker, who won the Golden Ball award after being voted the best player at the 2010 World Cup, has been linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderon stadium after firing his club to the Europa League trophy and his country to the semi-finals in South Africa.

Juventus are one of the clubs said to be interested in the former Manchester United and Villarreal forward if their attempts to sign Wolfsburg forward Edin Dzeko fail.

However, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo told AS: "We don't know anything about any club.

"No one called us to ask for Forlan. That is why we are calm.

"The intention of Atletico is not to transfer any players. If anyone wanted Forlan, they would have to speak to us first. But our player is happy at Atletico and the best thing is to let him be."

Forlan is under contract with the Rojiblancos until 2013.
