The Spanish EU Presidency and the European Commission (EC) has assured the European Parliament to take into account most of their demands in negotiating a new agreement for the transfer of financial data to the U.S. in the fight terrorism.
"I have found that there are a number of issues of particular concern (European Parliament) and I want to ensure that form part of the negotiating guidelines that the Council will adopt," said Spanish Secretary of State for the EU, Diego Lopez Garrido, after listening to MEPs.
The first of these concerns and insisted that most parliamentarians is the need to prevent data from being transferred "wholesale."
According to Lopez Garrido, the governments of the EU share that view and believe that we can not accept a transfer "indiscriminating" but that the extraction of data should occur only when there is "substantial grounds" to believe that the citizen can be linked to or terrorism financing networks.
